Synchronized bird survey for wetland birds happened all over Tamil Nadu on January 28-29 2023. Kanniyakumari Nature Foundation organized an orientation session on 28th evening about wetland bird identification for the volunteers.

Compared to previous years, the volunteers participation was much better in Kanniyakumari district this year. Along with the Forest Department, our foundation created a list of 20 wetlands in Kanniyakumari district. The teams were split accordingly, so that each team can visit a minimum of two waterbodies.
On 29th January 2023, all team members gathered at the DFO office by morning 5.30 AM. The Forest Department had arranged vehicles for all the teams. Each team went to their destination waterbodies along with a Forest Department staff. The teams surveyed in their respective locations till 11 AM. All the teams were provided breakfast in their survey location or at the DFO Office.

Once the teams were back, everyone completed the checklist and submitted it to the Forest Department. Amur falcon, Peregrine falcon, Greater Spotted eagle, Black-headed munia were few of the interesting sightings in the survey.

Kanniyakumari Nature Foundation compiled the results and submitted them to the Forest Department. The result was a whooping number of 163 species and 10094 total count of birds.
