A gallery of activities by Kanniyakumari nature foundation ( KNF)

This page showcases some of the activities we have been involved with over time. Though not exactly in timeline it will show the variety of events we are involved in.

Being part of moth survey in Sirumalai hills. It was a wonderful experience with hundreds of species being spotted . The research paper from the moth expert is expected soon.

The synchronized bird census team along with the district forest officer before the start of the survey.

Releasing the rescued parakeets onto a bigger cage in Udayagiri fort. The district forest officer Mr. M. Ilayaraja released the parakeets. The repurposing of the cage was sponsored by KNF.

Biodiversity study by KNF in Kanniyakumari wildlife sanctuary yielded very interesting findings.

Creating a butterfly friendly garden in one of the schools in Nagercoil.

A student reading the story he had written for the story writing competition organized by us. The winners were given cash prizes which was sponsored by KNF.

Tree planting was done by KNF with the help of eco club students of a government high school. As part of increasing diversity different tree species was specifically chosen for planting.

A presentation on floral diversity of India to the Intach group members.

A butterfly festival was conducted in Vallanaadu blackbuck sanctuary. KNF was one of the partners to the event held by ACCC.

A turtle sand art was done for the turtle release ceremony. A beach cleanup was also done on the same day.

Just like butterfly posters, bird posters were also distributed to schools for creating curiosity among students.

Botany students were taken for a flora exploration walk in one of the forest areas of Kanniyakumari wildlife sanctuary.

Students from schools were taken for releasing of olive ridley hatchlings. They were taught about the importance of turtles first.

We took care of various injured birds that came to us. This particular bird seemed to have gotten an electric shock. we nursed it back to health and successfully released it back.

Team building involves bringing like minded people together. The bird watching trip was one such event to unite the birders of Kanniyakumari district.

Introducing ornithology to young minds by taking them to birding in the salt pans of Puthalam.

Explaining the importance of Ramsar sites to students in the presence of the District forest officer Mr. M.Ilayaraja.

Mapped the trees of government schools and colleges of Kanniyakumari district and did an assessment of diversity.

Inorder to kindle interest in turtle conservation volunteers were involved in turtle walk this season. we were happy to see involvement from fellow nature lovers.

The sea erosion in kanniyakumari is a serious issue and we engaged in research to find whether salt water incursion was happening in nesting locations.

We engaged in bird watching in government schools on a regular basis.

The success of the turtle conservation program depended on good knowledge about the process. we conducted a training program for the forest department staff to enhance their knowledge.

A butterfly survey was conducted in Theri kaadu, thoothukudi district to aid in the site being declared as a biodiversity heritage site.
